Gorgen's long save opportunity closes door on Miners 3-2

Anchorage Bucs closer Matt Gorgen pitched 2 1/3 innings of perfect relief Friday night to preserve a 3-2 victory over the Mat-Su Miners at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

Story tools

Tied at 2-2 in the sixth inning, the Bucs pushed across the winning run on Robert Taylor's RBI ground out. The rally started with back-to-back singles from Dominick Duggan and Bryan Peterson.

The loss, coupled with the Peninsula Oilers' 10-2 win over Athletes in Action, dropped the Miners into second place in the Alaska Baseball League.

The Bucs remained in third, 1 1/2 games back.

Anchorage grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBIs by Jason Castro and Dustin Hood.

Mat-Su pulled even in the fifth inning on Brent Milleville's sacrifice fly. Miners starter David Gruener took the loss despite yielding just one earned run in six innings of work.
