AROUND THE HORN
-- The Anchorage Bucs pushed the Glacier Pilots out of first place by beating the Oilers 3-1. The Bucs scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning on gifts from the Oilers -- a bases-loaded walk, and an error by the third baseman that scored two more runs. The Oilers got one back in the eighth but, on the same play, had another runner thrown out at the plate to end the inning. In the ninth, Kevin Jacob picked up his fourth save for the Bucs -- giving him more than last year's entire staff managed.
-- The Mat-Su Miners beat the Pilots 5-1 behind solid pitching by starter R.L. Eisenbach and a big second inning. Eisenbach struck out seven and scattered five hits over six shutout innings, and his team backed him up by turning seven hits and an error into five runs in the second. The Pilots avoided the shutout by plating a run in the eighth.
