Chris Smith picked up the win with six strong innings as the Pilots built an early lead and cruised at Mulcahy Stadium.
Bucs 2, Bears 1
Chen-Chang Lee of Taiwan mixed a low 90s fastball with his offspeed arsenal Thursday to handcuff the Bears of California in a non-league game at Mulcahy Stadium.
Lee tossed seven innings, allowing one run on three hits as the Bucs moved to 5-0.
Steven Sears, a day after joining the Bucs from Austin, Texas, recorded a save with two scoreless innings of relief.
Oilers 11, Waves 2
Jeremiah Mejia smacked an inside-the-park home run to highlight a 13-hit attack, leading the Peninsula Oilers to an 11-2 win over the North County Waves at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
Consecutive singles by Nick Buss (2 for 4), Kyle Melton (2 for 5) and Michael Dabbs to begin the bottom of the first inning set the stage for Toby Davis, who went 3 for 3 and knocked in a pair runs with the Oilers’ fourth base hit in a row.
Following a sacrifice bunt by Adam Younger, Joe Patterson
(2 for 4) made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly. Mejia’s inside-the-park home run in the second inning increased the lead to 4-0 and Buss, who had singled, came around to score on an error to make it 5-0.
