Visiting Miners dominate Bucs 6-1

Joe Ercolano and Joey August each contributed a pair of hits and combined for three RBIs Sunday, as the Mat-Su Miners cruised to their sixth consecutive win, a 6-1 matinee victory over the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Stadium.

Story tools

The Miners extended their lead atop the Alaska Baseball League to three games over AIA. The Bucs fell to third place, 3 1/2 games back.

Christian Bergman made his first start for the Bucs and gave up six unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings as the Bucs committed four errors.

Joe Mateo and Max Peterson combined to pitch seven innings of one-run ball for the Miners.

The Bucs only run came on a home run by Logan Schafer leading off the fourth inning.

AIA 3, Oilers 2

AIA outfielder Jamie McGraw drove in Quinn Clair with a bases-loaded groundout in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday night in Fairbanks to send the defending ABL champion Peninsula Oilers to their sixth consecutive loss.

The Oilers started the season on a tear, winning their first 11 games before their tailspin.

But Peninsula fought hard again Sunday and tied the game 2-2 in the eighth inning on Juan Martinez's RBI single with two outs. Martinez also scored on a sacrifice fly by Toby Davis in the top of the fifth inning.

Payton Tweddale (3-0) was the winning pitcher for AIA, which went 6-2 on this homestand. Joey Haug (0-1) took the loss for the Oilers.
