Pilots roar back to end losing skid

Todd Sebek went 4 for 5, drove in three runs and made a game-saving catch in the ninth inning Tuesday night at Mulcahy Stadium to help the Anchorage Glacier Pilots snap a four-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the visiting Mat-Su Miners.

Story tools

The top of the Pilots order killed the visitors. Leadoff hitter Bernard Williams furnished three hits and drove in two runs, left fielder Aaron Barrows scored a run and went 1 for 4, Sebek mashed in the three hole, cleanup hitter Matt Wagner drove in a pair of runs and Mike Murphy added an RBI.

The Pilots roared back from a 3-0 deficit after four innings.

Anchorage starter Jordan Merry allowed just one earned run in six innings and struck out seven. Zachary Beltz provided two innings of hitless relief.

Mat-Su first baseman Ryan Conan accounted for three of the Miners' five hits.

Oilers 1, Panners 0

Three Peninsula pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout, and outfielder Michael Dabbs drove in the only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning in the low-scoring thriller in Kenai.

Catcher David Genao from Oral Roberts opened the ninth with a single to break up a no-hit bid by Goldpanners pitcher Jonathan Kountis. He advanced to second on an error by Kountis during a sacrifice attempt before Dabbs' one-out single to right field scored the game winner.

Kountis went the distance for Fairbanks, striking out seven.

Tyler Fleming started for the Oilers and went 6 1/3 innings, allowing just four hits. Steve Goins and John Dunn tossed hitless relief.

AIA 10, Bucs 6

Athletes in Action chased Bucs starter Chu-Kuan Lee with six second-inning runs and never trailed on the way to a 10-6 win at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks.

The Bucs rallied for four third-inning runs and twice closed within one run at 6-5 and 7-6 -- but the Fire bounced back with three runs in the fifth.

Sean Ratliff homered and doubled for the Bucs.
