After staging one of the greatest comebacks in team history, the Peninsula Oilers, given up for dead in the ninth inning, rallied from a six-run deficit with two outs in the ninth to force extra innings.

But the Mat-Su Miners prevailed in the 12th, scoring two runs in the top of the inning to stay alive in the Alaska Baseball League pennant chase with an 8-6 win at Seymour Park in Kenai on Saturday.

With the victory, the Miners trail the league-leading AIA Fire by one game with two games remaining. AIA has four games left.

Trailing 6-0 with two outs in the ninth, the Oilers started their comeback with Jeremiah Mejia's RBI single.

But with one out in the 12th, Derek Helenihi's two-RBI single to right field gave the Miners a lead they never relinquished.

Jay McConnell went 4 for 6 with three RBIs and a two-run home run in the sixth inning to lead the Miners.

Mat-Su's Max Peterson pitched 3 1/3 innings of no-hit relief. Starter George Brown gave up no runs in seven innings.

Bucs 5, AIA 4

The Anchorage Bucs' Louis Ullrich walked to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday and cut Athletes in Action's lead in Alaska Baseball League to a single game.

The 3-2 pitch from AIA's Justin Wood at Mulcahy Stadium sailed wide to secure the win for the Bucs' Jared Gayhart.

Logan Schafer went 2 for 5 with a triple and run scored as the Bucs banged out 11 hits.

AIA has four games to play.

Panners 5, Pilots 4

Matt Vogel and Brent Wyatt combined for five hits, four runs and all five RBIs Saturday to help the Fairbanks Goldpanners hold on to defeat the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks.

Vogel cracked a two-run home run in the first inning and was followed by Wyatt's solo shot.

Wyatt added an RBI double in the three-run first inning.
