Peninsula Oilers starting pitcher Tyler Fleming weaved a one-hit shutout Sunday for a 2-0 victory over the visiting Athletes in Action that cut the Fire's lead in the Alaska Baseball League to a half game.

AIA has lost three straight since winning 21 of its first 24 league games. The second place Mat-Su Miners were idle Sunday.

The Fire have three games left and the Miners have two.

Fleming moved to 5-2 with the Oilers' first complete-game shutout of the season. He threw 115 pitches at Coral Seymour Memorial Ballpark in Kenai.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who leads the Fire with a .355 average, struck out three times

AIA starter Bobby Bennett, gave up one run in 7 2/3 innings.

The Oiler scored twice in the second inning on RBI singles by Robert Lundy and Steve Goins.

Panners 8, Bucs 3

The Fairbanks Goldpanners scored five runs in a third inning that included two Anchorage Bucs errors and cruised to victory Sunday night at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks.

Chris Tremblay, Sean Bard, Paul Martin and Troy Hamilton had two hits apiece for the Goldpanners. Hamilton knocked in two runs.

Catcher Dane Ponciano smacked a solo home run for Fairbanks.
