Mat-Su Miners, Peninsula Oilers to meet in ABL Top of the World Series

After weather cut short both of the Alaska Baseball League's first-round playoff series, the Top of the World Series is set.

The No. 1 Mat-Su Miners and the No. 2 Peninsula Oilers will play the first game of the best-of-three series at 6 p.m. Saturday at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

The Oilers defeated the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 8-5 Friday at Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai to advance to the finals.

Seth DeWeitt hit a three-run double in the third inning to boost the Oilers. Daniel Szpik added two runs and two RBIs.

Joe Gillette led the Pilots with one run and two RBIs.

The Friday game decided the series due to a rainout on Thursday.

In the other series, the second game between the Miners and the Anchorage Bucs was cancelled Friday after overnight rain made the Hermon Brothers diamond unplayable.
