Devon Stewart struck out Steven Karkenny with the bases loaded in the ninth inning Monday night to preserve the Anchorage Bucs' 3-2 victory over the Chugiak Chinooks at Mulcahy Stadium.

Stewart earned his second save for the Bucs, who lead the Alaska Baseball League's American League.

Joie Dunyon racked the win with four innings of scoreless, three-hit relief.

Grant Palmer's sixth-inning single plated the winning run for the Bucs, who fell behind 2-0 when Chugiak scored its runs in the top of the first inning. Palmer also furnished an RBI single in the second inning.

Miners win slugfest

Eight of Mat-Su's nine batters scored at least one run and seven of them drove in at least one run Monday, when the Miners beat the Peninsula Oilers 11-9 in a slugfest at Hermon Brothers Field.

On a night when both teams banged out 12 hits, Mat-Su's Jonny Locher went 2 for 4 with a home run and three runs scored.

Oilers right fielder Josh Rose bashed two homers, drove in three runs and scored three runs in going 3 for 3.
