Boys hoops: Chugiak upends West, East wins in OT; Bartlett trips Dimond

Chugiak 73, West 66

Chugiak upset the West Eagles 73-66 Tuesday night in a Cook Inlet Conference boys basketball game at West High.

Shooting guard Derryk Snell led the Mustangs with 14 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Zach Hauger added 13 points.

"That's a huge win," Chugiak coach Jocquis Sconiers said. "That's the first time we've beaten West in I don't know how many years."

West's Joey Barranco hit a buzzer-beating trey at the end of the first quarter, giving West a 18-14 lead.

Chugiak led 33-29 at the half, with Hauger scoring 11 of his eventual 13 points in the first half. The Mustangs extended their lead in the third quarter by outscoring West 23-20.

"They just wanted the win more than us," West center Sean Duffy said. "We had a bad warmup and didn't play very good defense late."

Chugiak forward Terrance Coates had 11 points, Josh Wilson contributed 10 and Hunter Harr provided eight points and nine rebounds.

For West, point guard Da'zhon Wyche had 28 points and Barranco added six.

East 90, South 76, OT

Moses Miller buried a 3-pointer to force overtime and Daon Jones pumped in eight points in the extra period Tuesday to propel East past South 90-76 in a Cook Inlet Conference boys basketball thriller at South High.

Miller's big shot came with three seconds left in regulation and left the teams tied, 74-74.

Then the T-birds took command.

Jones scored hit a pair of 3-pointers to help East outscore South 16-2 in overtime.

He finished with five triples and 26 points, one of four double-figure scores for East and one of seven for the game.

Marquis White furnished 28 points and 11 rebounds, Carson Washburn chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds and Miller finished with 12 points. Jones joined White in double-double territory with 10 rebounds.

Alex Adams poured in 27 points to lead South, which got 19 points from Wyatt Babiak and 16 from Jake Swenson.

Bartlett 64, Dimond 54

A slow start didn't stop Bartlett's Bentiu Panoam from scoring 28 points or the Golden Bears from defeating Dimond 64-54 Tuesday on Senior Night at Bartlett High.

The Lynx led 16-10 after the first quarter, but Bartlett held Dimond to single digits in the second and third quarters and led by double digits down the stretch.

Eric Jenkins racked up a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Lynx.
