Girdwood 2020 awards $5,000 grants to five aspiring athletes

Five elite Alaska athletes – four nordic skiers and an alpine skier – have been awarded $5,000 grants from Girdwood 2020's Go For The Gold program to aid aspiring Olympians.

The recipients are alpine skier Kieffer Christianson and nordic skiers Lex Treinen, Eric Packer, Reese Hanneman and Tyler Kornfield.

Christianson is a member of the U.S. Ski Team and last season made his debut in the World Cup.

Treinen, Packer, Hanneman and Kornfeild are members of the Alaska Pacific University Nordic Center, which has trained and developed many of the nation's best, including Alaska Olympians Kikkan Randall and Holly Brooks.

Girdwood 2020 supports elite athletes with grants that help the athletes defray the costs of high-level training and competition.
