Juneau stays alive in NWCART tournament

Juneau Post 25 is the lone American Legion team from Alaska after the second day of the NWCART tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

On Saturday, Juneau needed just seven innings to eliminate Fairbanks Post 30 while Dimond Post 21 dropped a close game to Oregon.

Juneau 14, Fairbanks 0

Nathan Klein threw a complete-game, two-hitter to lead Juneau past Fairbanks 14-0 in seven innings. Klein, who walked just two batters and fanned nine, also drove in two runs and scored once.

Leading 6-0, Juneau scored eight runs in the sixth inning to invoke the mercy rule.

Oregon 8, Dimond 5

North Medford (Oregon) plated four runs in the top of the ninth to earn a come-from-behind 8-5 win over Dimond.

Kasey Buchanan led Oregon with two hits.

Grant Remmer went 2 for 3 and scored a run for Dimond, which got two hits and two RBIs from Mahlon Cleveland.

Idaho 15, Montana 4

Kam Farnsworth racked up five RBIs to help Pocatello (Idaho) cruise to a 15-4 win over Whitefish (Montana).

Farnsworth was one of four Idaho players with two hits.

Idaho used two pitchers to hold Montana to just six hits in nine innings.

Utah 5, Wyoming 0

Hunter Porritt scattered five hits and allowed just one walk in a complete-game effort to help Utah blank Wyoming 5-0.

Porritt helped his cause with two hits and one RBI. He was one of three Utah players with two hits.
