Christy Marvin continued her domination of the mountain-running scene in Saturday's Alyeska Classic Mountain Run and Olympic skier Erik Bjornsen led an impressive effort by athletes best known for their nordic skiing accomplishments.

Marvin, 33, won the women's title in the two-mile climb up the slopes of Mount Alyeska in Girdwood, devouring the 2,000 feet in elevation gain in 29 minutes, 7.5 seconds. That gave her an advantage of 1:39 over runner-up Sadie Bjornsen (30:46), an Olympic skier and Erik's sister.

Becca Rorabaugh, who like Sadie Bjornsen skis for the Alaska Pacific University Nordic Center, finished third among women in 32:02. The legendary Nancy Pease, 52, who has long held the course records on Mount Marathon and in the marathon-length Crow Pass Crossing back-country race, finished fourth in 32:29.

Marvin's win in the final event of the six-race Alaska Mountain Runners Grand Prix gave her five victories and one runner-up finish in the series. She won on Knoya Ridge, Government Peak, Bird Ridge, Crow Pass and Matanuska Peak, and finished a close second to two-time Olympic skier Holly Brooks at Mount Marathon.

Erik Bjornsen, 23, who skis for APU, clocked 24:02.7 to top fellow nordic skiers Scott Patterson (24:39) and David Norris (25:09).

Matt Kenney, 43, on the comeback trail after suffering a brain injury and severely broken leg in a 2012 fall in Mount Marathon, delivered tremendous improvement over this time in last year's race. Saturday, he clocked 54:40, 10 minutes faster than his 2013 time.
