South, Bartlett cruise to football wins

South and Bartlett remained undefeated Saturday by storming to convincing Cook Inlet Conference football victories.

South bruised Chugiak 57-12 at Chugiak, and Bartlett buried East 28-0 at Anchorage Football Stadium. Both winning teams improved to 2-0.

South (2-0 overall, 2-0 CIC) pounced on Chugiak early, rolling to a 20-0 first-quarter lead and a 42-0 halftime lead on the strength of three touchdowns apiece from Nicholas Settle and Justice Augafa. Settle finished the half with 150 yards on just six carries, with three of them long runs into the end zone. He scored on a 72-yard run and a pair of 30-yard runs.

The Wolverines' defense chipped in with a safety to start the second half and the offense added a 16-yard scoring pass to Settle from Colin Thompson and a two-yard scoring run by Sam Cook to surge to a 57-0 lead after three quarters.

The fourth quarter belonged to Chugiak (1-1 overall, 0-1 CIC), which avoided the shutout with Kenny Lee's four-yard touchdown run midway through the quarter. Lee added another touchdown as time expired.

At AFS, Bartlett (2-0 overall, 1-0 CIC) waited until the second half to take it to East.

The game was scoreless at the half, but things changed once the Golden Bears put running back Vincent Lobendahn to work.

Lobendahn was handed the ball on Bartlett's first 10 plays and 14 of its first 15 plays in the third quarter. He scored three times during that stretch, on runs of 2, 1 and 13 yards. Lobendahn added a fourth touchdown with 67 seconds left in the third quarter.

With the loss, East dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.
