Wasilla Post 35 and Chugiak Post 33 survived elimination games Saturday at the American Legion state tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.
Defending champion Chugiak earned a 9-7 win over Service Post 28 while Wasilla topped Eagle River 10-3.
The tournament continues Sunday with winners bracket games featuring Kenai vs. South and Dimond vs. Juneau. Winners advance to Tuesday's semifinal.
Chugiak plays the Kenai-South loser in one of two elimination games Monday while Wasilla will take on the Dimond-Juneau loser.
Chugiak 9, Service 7
Deven Ferriss went 3 for 4 and scored three runs for Chugiak, which got two RBIs apiece from Sam Hanson, Jimmy Lanier and Jared Phearson.
Chugiak held a 6-4 lead through four innings, but Service plated two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 7-6.
Chugiak took the lead for good with two runs in the seventh inning, then added an insurance run in the top of the ninth.
Brandon Sakamoto went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and scored a run to lead Service, which got a pair of hits from Mike Shuler.
Wasilla 10, Eagle River 3
Ben Ross and Matt Palmer had huge games for Wasilla. Ross went 2 for 3 and drove in four runs while Palmer was 4 for 4 with three runs and one RBI.
Mike Rosenberg went 2 for 4 to lead Eagle River.
