Taz Mannix of the Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center won a 15-kilometer Europa Cup skate race on Sunday in Planica, Slovenia.

The Europa Cup race is an international race circuit that's one step down from the World Cup, which attracts the best international skiers.
"We were really excited, really pleased for Taz," said Erik Flora, her coach at APU. "It puts her in a very good position. She's definitely one of the best distance racers in the U.S. right now."
The victory in the mass-start race was Mannix's first on the Europa Cup circuit. Coraline Hugue of France was second and Marian Piller of Italy was third. Morgan Aritola of the U.S. Ski Team was 20th.
Mannix was fifth in a pursuit race on Saturday, also in Planica.
"She's skiing really strong in the uphills right now, and that's making a difference," Flora said
