A week after South won the Cook Inlet Conference playoffs — a four-team tournament to determine the regular season champion — the conference's tennis teams meet in the CIC championships to determine who's going to state and who's going home.
The tournament begins at 2 p.m. Thursday at Alaska Club East and continues through Saturday.
South won last week's tournament finals 8-1 over Dimond and heads into the CIC championships as the team to beat.
The Wolverines are led by Joseph Hemry and Christine Hemry — last year's state and conference champions. Joseph and Christine each won their finals matches 6-0, 6-0 last weekend.
The difference in format between the two tournaments is last week's tournament featured the regular season format of four singles matches, four doubles matches and a mixed doubles match, while this week's tournament feature the conference's best players earning points for their team as they advance through a bracket.
