Flag football: Dimond seals No. 1 seed in CIC with overtime victory over Chugiak

Dimond defeated Chugiak 25-19 Thursday in overtime to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Cook Inlet Conference and close the flag football regular season with a win.

Victoria Johansen caught the game-winning touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line for the Lynx. She finished with four receptions for 23 yards and two scores.

Dimond quarterback Megan Luther tossed both touchdowns to Johansen and ran for another. Luther totaled 121 rushing yards and 36 passing yards.

Chugiak quarterback Chasity Horn went 6 of 9 passing for 149 yards and three touchdowns.

Two of the touchdowns went to Carson Head, including the game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Dimond (12-2) stumped the Mustangs (7-7) on the ensuing extra point, which led to overtime where the Lynx again stopped Chugiak and won on the next possession.

On defense, Meghen Jones returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown and Desi Tanuvasa snagged six flag pulls with two for a loss for the Lynx.

For Chugiak, Eva Palmer tallied a game-high 16 pulls. Palmer also scored the Mustangs first touchdown on a 73-yard reception.
