South’s Homza named CIC’s top baseball player

A year after earning Gatorade Alaska Baseball Player of the Year honors, South's Jonny Homza was honored as the best baseball player in the Cook Inlet Conference this season.

Homza was equally deadly at the plate and on the mound earning him the Don Rabung Cook Inlet Conference MVP award two years after his brother, Willy, was a co-recipient of the award.

The senior pitcher and shortstop was also named to the All-CIC first team as a pitcher and an infielder for the third straight season.

Homza dazzled at the plate with 10 RBIs and 15 runs in 10 games. He was the only player in the league to have hit better than .500 and record an on-base percentage better than .700.

On the mound, Homza went 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA and 19 strikeouts in three games.

Fellow Wolverines Parker Johnson and Sladen Mohl also pulled in CIC honors when the list was released Friday.

Johnson, who did not commit an errors this season, was tabbed the league's Gold Glove award winner and Mohl snagged the Big Stick award along with Dimond's Dylan Montagna.
