Dimond downs East to win 20-team Dimond/Service volleyball tourney

Led by tournament MVP Alissa Pili, the Dimond Lynx captured the championship of the 20-team Service/Dimond volleyball tournament Saturday night at Dimond High.

Pili's 11 kills and nine digs carried the Lynx past the East T-birds 25-11, 18-25, 15-6 in the championship match.

Maya Carle's 21 digs and Hahni Johnson's 13 assists and eight digs helped Dimond hold off East, which got seven kills apiece from Precilla Fagafaga, Nyanuer Bidit and Morgan Zinn, who also had 10 digs.

In pool play, Dimond and West both posted 8-0 records and East and West Valley both went 7-1. In bracket play, Dimond defeated Bartlett and West and East downed Chugiak and West Valley to reach the title match.

In consolation play, Soldotna defeated Wasilla to win the silver bracket and Grace Christian beat Thunder Mountain to top the bronze bracket.

Hutchison wins Lumen Christi Spiketacular

The Hutchison Hawks beat Kenny Lake in three sets Saturday night to walk away as champions of the 20-team Lumen Christi Spiketacular.

In the semifinals, Hutchison disposed of the Eagle River JV team and Kenny Lake beat Cordova.

Su Valley topped the consolation bracket by taking down Dillingham in two sets.
