Bartlett volleyball team stops East to gain spot in CIC title match

The Bartlett Golden Bears clinched a spot in the championship match of the Cook Inlet Conference volleyball match by beating East on Friday.

Bartlett downed the T-birds in four sets in a winner's-bracket match at Service High. The 25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21 victory puts the Golden Bears in Saturday's 6 p.m. title match.

Leeanna Atafua put up 44 assists to lead Bartlett, which got 17 kills and 25 digs from Violett Togaga'e and 11 kills and 21 digs from Pa'ia Togaga'e 11 kills, 21 digs.
Loralynna Atafua added 23 digs.

East was led by Daisy Page's 18 kills and 21 digs, Morgan Zinn's 36 digs and Precious Fagafaga's 49 assists.

In other action Friday, South and Dimond both won loser-out matches to stay in contention for the conference's third and final berth at next week's state tournament. Bartlett and East are already assured of spots.

South defeated West 27-25, 25-19, 25-19, and Dimond stopped Chugiak 25-18, 25-21, 25-15.

South and Dimond will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Service High, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.

The winner will also advance to a 4 p.m. match against East. Whoever comes out on top will play Bartlett for the CIC crown.
