The Alaska Avalanche roared back from a two-goal deficit Saturday in Soldotna to forge a third period tie and eventually beat the Kenai River Brown Bears 4-3 on Dustin Skinner's goal in the shootout.
It was the second straight come-from-behind road victory over Kenai. On Friday, the Avalanche overcame a 5-4 deficit in the third period to win 6-5.
The victory pulled the resurgent Avalanche (9-11-1) into a third-place tie in the North American Hockey League's South Division with 19 points, just three points behind second-place Fairbanks.
Kenai (5-12-3) remained in last place.
Joe Harren and Kyle Pilcher, the former South High star, scored in a 49-second span midway through the third period to erase Kenai's advantage and tie the game 2-2.
Pilcher's goal was his sixth of the season.
Six minutes later, Jeremiah Dargis of Wasilla put the Avalanche ahead -- but Kenai's Jon Larson knotted the score 3-3 with just 86 seconds left in regulation.
Skinner was the only skater to score in the shootout.
