Taylor came up seconds short of winning heats on both Saturday and Sunday, with his second-place run on Sunday lifting him to the overall win with a two-day total time of 64 minutes, 5 seconds.

Taylor's time of 31:52 Sunday was a second shy of Ed Wood's winning time of 31:51. But Taylor was quite a bit faster than Wood on Saturday while finishing in 32:13, two seconds behind first-day winner Jeff Conn.

Conn had to change leaders Sunday and faded to fifth overall.

The two-day race marked a return to Tozier Track for the Alaskan Sled Dog Racing Association, which had been displaced from its Tudor Road home base for a couple of seasons by the expansion of Elmore Road.

"We're back home, and we're more than happy," the association's Christine Tozier said.
