Rall, Strahle make USA Under-17 hockey team

Zack Rall and Trace Strahle of Anchorage are two of the seven defensemen named Wednesday to USA Hockey's Under-17 Select Team, which will play in the Five Nations Tournament next month in Slovakia.

Dimond 6, Bartlett 5, 11 innings

Nolan Olson went 4 for 5 with two doubles, two runs scored and the game-winning RBI single with bases loaded in the 11th inning to lead Dimond past Bartlett at Kosinski Fields Wednesday.

TENNIS

South's Archuleta nets a scholarship

South High School's Alex Archuleta will be attending Florida's Northwood University in the fall to play tennis for the Seahawks. Archuleta, a 2008 South graduate and three-sport athlete for the Wolverines, plans to major in sports management. He lettered in tennis, wrestling and baseball while at South. Northwood is an NAIA school located in Palm Beach that competes in the Florida Sun Conference.

Rick Santos slapped a pair of doubles and scored three times Monday as East cruised by Bartlett at Kosinski Fields.

Matt Sullivan's hit-and-run double down the right-field line scored lead-off hitter Jessie Oaks in the top of the 10th inning to help Chugiak beat South on Monday at South Anchorage Ballfields.

Colton Lauwers pitched a complete game shorted to eight innings by the mercy rule and stuck out 11 to lead Dimond to a road victory.

East wrestler earns spot on US squad

East High's Kyle Hoffer has earned a berth at 145 pounds on the U.S. Deaf National Wrestling Team after trials last weekend in Pocatello, Idaho. The freestyle wrestler is also an alternate for the Greco Roman team.
