Service's Cook Inlet Conference season got off to a blazing start Saturday thanks to Bryan Beard, who pitched a three-hitter and went 2 for 2 to help the Cougars beat West 12-2 in five innings at Kosinski Fields.
Stephen Ferntheil and Garrett Grenier each produced a pair of hits and combined for three RBIs for the Cougars.

Dimond hitters put the hurt on South pitchers as the Lynx rolled up 11 runs on 12 hits to end Saturday's CIC opener in five innings at Kosinski Fields.
Colton Lauwers struck out eight batters in five innings and his battery mate Dax Lauwers manufactured two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.
Leftfielder Eric Cooper had two hits and two RBIs. Shortstop Cory Klevenger finished with three hits for the Lynx.
