Zach Ferntheil did a little bit of everything for an undefeated Service team during the Cook Inlet Conference baseball season, and was rewarded by being named the Don Rabung Most Valuable Player.

Sagan Osborne pitched a complete-game five-hitter and struck out nine Saturday afternoon, when the Dimond Post 21 beat West Post 1, 8-3 in seven innings at Mulcahy Stadium, in the opening game of the American Legion baseball season for both clubs.

Colony 6, Wasilla 1 in baseball

Jonathan Boyer scattered eight hits in a seven-inning complete-game performance Friday in Kenai to lift Colony to a 6-1 win over Kenai that earned the Knights the Southcentral Conference championship and a state tournament berth.

The Taylar Young Memorial Field will be named for the 16-year-old baseball player who was killed in an auto accident at the Kosinski Fields parking lot in May of 2009.
