Blowouts were the name of the game Friday at the 15th annual BP Exploration baseball tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Three of the five pool-play games all ended after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. Fairbanks throttled Eagle River 23-1, Service blanked Bartlett 15-0 and Eagle River roughed up Bartlett 17-5.

Chugiak chased East after six innings 14-4, while South's win over West in a 16-10 slugfest qualified as a close game.

Among Friday's highlights:

• Matt Sullivan cracked a three-run triple in the sixth to lead the Mustangs rout.

• Jack Ryan racked up four RBIs and four runs and teammate Trevor Allred had three RBIs and three hits in South's win over West. Nine players collected hits, seven scored runs and six drove in runs for the Wolverines.

• Torgen Soderlund and Kyle Lester combined for nine RBIs and eight hits to spark Fairbanks against Eagle River.

• Paul Grotelueschen struck out nine and scattered eight hits while teammates Kyle Youngs, Cody Helton, Zach Weller and Andrew Grotelueschen each drove in three runs in Eagle River's win over Bartlett.

• Sam Sewell struck out eight in five shutout innings and got support from Garrett Grenier (3 RBIs) and Chase Barrus (3 hits) to lead Service past Bartlett.

The eight-team, four-day American Legion continues today and concludes Sunday.
