Bouncing back from a Wednesday loss to West that pierced its undefeated season, the East High softball team beat West twice on Thursday night to win the Cook Inlet Conference tournament title and seize the top seed in next week’s state tournament.

South sweeps Soldotna in softball
South put up a combined 20 runs in two wins Saturday, defeating Soldotna 11-2 and 9-6 in a nonconference softball doubleheader at Albrecht Fields.
East celebrated Senior Night with a pair of Cook Inlet Conference victories over South at Wendler Middle School on Thursday, taking the first game 14-0 and the second 13-5.

Service baseball tops Dimond 6-2
Service's Johnny Meszaros struck out seven over six innings Tuesday and benefitted from some stellar defensive plays by Jake Ridley and Ryan Caron in a 6-2 Cook Inlet Conference win over Dimond at Mulcahy Stadium.
East continued an impressive start to its softball season, remaining undefeated with two Cook Inlet Conference wins over West on Saturday at Wendler Middle School.

West's Pauline Tufi struck out seven of the first eight Dimond batters she faced in the state softball championship at Cartee Fields on Saturday. She couldn't keep up the devastating pace, but she finished with 18 strikeouts over 14 innings, pitching two complete games against the Lynx to secure West's first state championship.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
The Eagles began the tournament Friday by beating defending champion Juneau for the first time in school history, 6-3, and then proceeded to shut out West Valley 2-0 to advance to the semifinals for the first time.
