GIRLS -- Strong first and fourth quarters carried the top-seeded Mustangs over upset-hungry West in the first tournament game Wednesday.

Chugiak (17-6) outscored West 12-2 in the opening eight minutes before ending the game on a 17-5 spurt to propel the regular-season champions. Take away those two spurts and lowly West outscored Chugiak 19-17.

Kyle Jennings led the way for Chugiak with 13 points. Lindsay Murphy added 12 and Sarah Watzke 10.

Ashley Dixon posted team-high totals with nine points and eight rebounds for West (1-22).

Sheena Pio collected 14 points and seven rebounds to power the No. 2 T-birds over the Wolves and into the semifinals.

Jazzie Gaddy added 15 points and Jordan Martin 10 for East (18-7). The T-birds excelled at the free-throw line, outscoring Eagle River 15-0.

Pio made 6 of 9 field goals and both of her foul shots.

Jennifer Marshall's five points and Lindsay Sommers' seven rebounds led Eagle River (4-18).
