Noland reaches finals

Derek Noland advanced to the boys 18 singles final of the Alaska Club junior tennis championships by turning back Reed Lekander 6-3, 6-1 Friday at the Alaska Club North.

Joseph Hemry swept Greg Bidwell 6-0, 6-0 Thursday in a quarterfinal match of the men's 3.5 singles division at the Alaska State Tennis Championships at The Alaska Club North.

South wins state tennis championship

South High netted its third straight ASAA/First National Bank state high school tennis championship Saturday, and there's bad news for teams chasing the Wolverines -- the two players who captured singles titles for South are both underclassmen.

East junior Ryan Roys ripped a backhand match winner down the left side of court No. 3 at The Alaska Club North on Wednesday, and then calmly walked to the net to shake his opponent's hand.

Four tennis teams distinguished themselves in Tuesday's first round of the Cook Inlet Conference championship at The Alaska Club North. South earned 12 points to take a one-point lead over East and West, and Dimond sits in fourth with nine points.

Dimond won three singles matches and three doubles matches to defeat Chugiak 6-3 in Cook Inlet Conference tennis Saturday at The Alaska Club East.

Service's boys won their singles matches by rebounding from second-set losses to win third-set tie-breakers, but South won all four girls matches and its depth delivered a 6-3 Cook Inlet Conference tennis victory Thursday.

South won all three contested matches and benefitted from six Bartlett forfeits to rack a 9-0 Cook Inlet Conference, home-court tennis victory Wednesday.

East 6, Service 3 in high school tennis

Three extended third-set tie-breakers featured two victories by Service, but East won one and turned back the visiting Cougars for a 6-3 Cook Inlet Conference tennis victory on Tuesday.
