Anna Simmers is headed to West Point in the fall, but on Saturday she reported for duty in Fairbanks.

Simmers, Anchorage Christian's sensational multi-sport athlete, won the shot put and the 100-meter hurdles to go along with a Friday victory in the triple jump to help the Lions claim the Class 1-2-3A girls state track and field championship.

ACS edged rival Grace Christian by six points, 92-86, to leave the Lathrop High track with the team trophy.

The boys team race provided less drama as Seward piled up 108 points for a comfortable win over Grace, which finished with 81.

Travis Price and Dylan Beck were the heroes for the Seahawks.

Price won the 400, 800 and long jump, which along with his Friday triumph in the triple jump made him the only four-event winner among Class 1-2-3A or Class 4A athletes.

Beck swept the hurdle races, edging Grace's Leif Karlberg in both the 110 and 300 races. He also added the high jump title on Friday, again beating Karlberg.

But Beck owes Karlberg a big thank you. He needed a huge lean to beat Karlberg in the 110 hurdles by .03 of a second, winning in 15.99 to Karlberg's 16.02. He was so committed to his lean, reported meet official John Estle of Fairbanks, that he crashed to the ground as he crossed the finish line.

"Karlberg had to hop over him to avoid spiking the winner," Estle noted.

The only other multiple-event winner was Kenny Lake's Kailey Wilson, who dominated the distance events. She handily won the 800 and 1,600 races Saturday, completing the hat trick that began with Friday's win in the 3,200.

Barrow racked up its first state track championship thanks to Lexy Siefert's victory in the 200 meters. Siefert, the school's only track athlete, won in 27.13.

Siefert was a close second in the 100 -- Melissa Grammer of Valdez won in 12.94, with Siefert right behind in 12.98 --and also finished second in the long jump.
