Life's about to become a beach for Chugiak High volleyball player Karlee Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh will head to Georgia State in the fall to play sand volleyball, the newest NCAA sport for women.

Hooe named spiker of the year

Though not one of the biggest players on the court, South's Morgan Hooe repeatedly came up big during the Wolverines' run to a state volleyball title last month, and her strong play earned her Gatorade's player of the year award for Alaska.
