Donley kicks off alpine racing season with 3 wins at Alyeska

The alpine ski racing season kicked off this weekend at Alyeska with two giant slalom races Friday and one slalom race Saturday for age-group skiers.

Finnigan Donley, a first-year U-14 skier, dominated all three boys races at the Coca-Cola Classic in Girdwood. After taking both of Friday's GS titles — winning one by nearly two seconds and the other by about 1.5 seconds — Donley triumphed by an even bigger margin on Saturday.

Skiing in wind and pouring rain, Donley claimed the slalom title by nearly five seconds over Max Johnsen. Charley Folds, a U-12 skier, was third.

U-14 skiers Daniel Ferucci and Joseph Stahla went 2-3 in both giant slalom races.

In the girls competition, Sophie Neuberger led the way with one win and two second-place finishes.

Neuberger won the second GS race Friday after placing second to Ava Schweiger in the first race. In Saturday's slalom, she placed second to Brooke-Lynn Allard.

Competition continues at Alyeska on Sunday and Monday when U-16 and older racers take over the slopes.
