Two call-ups from the Junior Avalanche midget comp team helped the Alaska Avalanche avert a sweep Saturday at Menard Memorial Arena in Wasilla, beating the Kenai River Brown Bears 5-3.

Houston High forward Dillon Styers scored in the first period and Wasilla forward Adam Friese kicked in a goal and an assist as the Avalanche snapped a four-game losing streak -- the last two losses coming against Kenai Friday and Wednesday.

Dustin Skinner, Alex Rasmussen and Kent Detlefsen also scored for Alaska, while Dusan Sidor stopped 35 of 38 shots.

Nick Calma, Scott Deur and Adam Krefski scored for Kenai River.
