Bartlett's Winford scores 43 points in loss

Durango High spoiled Kevin Winford's career game Friday afternoon as the Bartlett High senior scored 43 points in an 86-85 overtime loss to the Nevada team at the Vegas Valley Invitational in Las Vegas.

Coming off an MVP performance at the Palmer Elks Showdown two weeks ago, Winford sank five 3-pointers and made 8-of-10 free throws to lead Bartlett in scoring for the second straight game.

But clutch free throws in the closing seconds gave Durango the quarterfinal victory.

Sergio DeVoe finished with 12 points and Marshaun Roan collected 10 for the Golden Bears, who suffered their first lost of the season.

On Friday evening, Faith Lutheran held Winford to 13 points in its 49-33 victory over the Golden Bears (4-2).

Dimond 82, Peo. Wood. 69

Leading 40-38 at halftime, Dimond mounted a second-half scoring spree to secure Friday's victory over Peoria Woodruff (Ill.) at the Kankakee Tournament in Illinois.

Ryan Hanley led the Lynx with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Chris Plooy added 23 points, while Colton Lauwers registered 16 points, including four 3-pointers.

The Lynx (4-0) face Chicago's Hope High in today's championship game.

Service 78, Rock Spr. 65

Service's Marcus Lowe delivered 28 points and Josh Lopez added 26 in Friday's victory over Rock Springs (Wyo.) at the Gillette Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyo.

On Thursday, Lopez scored 27 points in Service's 73-64 loss to Bismarck (N.D.).

The Cougars (4-1) take on Idaho's Coeur d'Alene High in today's consolation action.

West 67, Legacy 63

Mike Russell collected a game-high 23 points Friday to help West High edge Legacy (Nev.) in consolation action of the Las Vegas Prep Championship in Nevada.

The Eagles (3-1), who had all 14 players log court time, finished the tournament 2-2.

Brentwood 49, Dimond 39

Dimond surrendered to four Brentwood (Calif.) Eagles who reached double figures in scoring as the Lynx fell in consolation action of the purple division at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

Jillian DeGuzman led the Lynx with 16 points and four steals. while Symphony Bagsby grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Lynx (0-2) play for seventh place this morning.

Miramonte 52, South 34

South High dropped its first game in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, falling to Miramonte (Calif.) on Friday in the orange division semifinal.

Sylvia Bullock led South with 12 points, while Glenn Gurule and Allison Horazdovsky combined for 14 points.

The Wolverines (1-1) play for third place this afternoon.

Eagle River drops four

Eagle River has lost its first four games in the Las Vegas Tournament in Nevada.

The five-time Nevada state champion Centennial Bulldogs crushed the Wolves 107-34 on Friday after losing 63-36 to Peninsula High (Calif.) earlier in the day.

On Thursday, Eagle River lost 55-25 to Valley High (Nev.) and also fell 53-26 to Douglas High (Calif.).

Notre Dame 47, Colony 43

Colony lost its third straight game at the Best of the West Tournament on Friday in Chino Hills, Calif.

Allie Grazulis paced the Knights with 14 points, while four of her teammates scored four points apiece.
