Anchorage's Kikkan Randall finished 33rd in the qualifying round of the 1.2-kilometer classic sprint at the World Cup event in Canmore, Alberta, on Wednesday, failing to advance to the quarterfinals by one position.
Randall was the top American woman. Her Alaska Pacific University teammates Laura Valaas and Kate Arduser finished 41st and 51st.
In the men's race, Anchorage's Lars Flora was 53rd in qualifying and did not advance. UAF's Vahur Teppan did advance to the quarters, where he finished 19th.
In Tuesday's men's 30-K classical/freestyle pursuit -- the first 15-K is classic, the second 15-K freestyle -- Flora finished 45th.
Talkeetna's Tazlina Mannix turned in a 39th-place showing in the women's 15-K classical/freestyle pursuit on Tuesday. Arduser was 41st.
Action in Alberta continues today with the women's 10-K freestyle and men's 15-K freestyle.
