The Peninsula Oilers, who won their first ABL game on Friday, continued their winning ways by claiming their second straight victory over the visiting Fairbanks Goldpanners 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
But the streak didn't last long. The Panners struck back 11-3 in the nightcap, unloading on five Oilers' pitchers for 15 hits.
The Panners had a chance to grab the first game also. Down 3-1 in the seventh inning, Fairbanks scored a run on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to one run.
The next Panners' batter grounded to Oilers' pitcher Kyle Wilson, who threw out the potential game-tying runner at home. Wilson then struck out Derek Bruce to end the game.
In the second game, the Panners' James Guerrero had a monster showing at the plate. The shortstop went 5 for 5 with five RBIs and a run scored.
Emerson Frostad, Tyler Best and Nick Blasi each had two hits for the Panners.
