The Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby is under way and Fairbanks angler Karl Sanford can enjoy his spot atop the leader board -- for now.

Sanford, fishing on the Trition of Lucky Pierre charters, hauled in a 128.8-pound flatfish on Saturday, a big fish by anyone's estimation but not one of the 300-plus pounders that typically win the derby.
Last year, Jerry Saunders' 358-pound monster allowed the lucky angler to take home more than $37,000.
