Two Alaskans among three UAF signings

Mason King, the 2008 Daily News Class 1A/2A Player of the Year from Bristol Bay, is one of three players set to join the UAF Nanooks men's basketball team this fall.

King, Tony Wilson of Anchorage and Kyle Rische of Norwalk, Conn., all signed with UAF on Friday. King enters as a freshman, Wilson and Rische both enroll as juniors, giving them two years of eligibility.

A 6-foot guard, King comes to UAF after leading Bristol Bay to a spot in the championship game of the Class 2A state tournament, scoring 99 points over three games, including a 44-point performance in the team's 71-70 semifinal victory over Point Hope.

It was the third straight season which King led all scorers in the 2A state tournament.

Wilson is a 6-5 guard from Anchorage who played two years for East High. After leaving East, Wilson played two seasons (2002-2004) at Yakima (Wash.) Valley Community College, averaging five points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals per game.

Rische joins the Nanooks after two seasons at Yuba College in Marysville, Calif. A 6-7 forward, Rische helped the 49ers to a 59-12 records in his two seasons at the junior college, leading the team to the California Community College Elite Eight both years.
