You can on Memorial Day at Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer.

The Alaska Electric Vehicle Association on Monday will race its 1978 Ford Pinto that has been converted to electric drive for competition in the stock conversion and pro street classes of the National Electric Racing Association.

Owner Mike Willmon and friend Hank Buettner have worked on converting the car over the last 14 months.

The Pinto is outfitted with 850 pounds of sealed lead-acid batteries capable of delivering approximately 450 horsepower from its dual nine-inch series wound DC motors to the rear wheels.

The car is expected to deliver 1/4 mile ETs in the mid to low 12-second range when dialed up to full power. Willmon and Buettner debuted the electric dragster earlier this month at Alaska Raceway Park.

More details on the car can be found at evalbum.com/1093.
