Joe Gardner improved to a perfect 4-0 this season after pitching five strong innings and leading the Peninsula Oilers to a nonleague win over Taiwan on Monday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
The right-hander from California pitched his way out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the third inning when he struck out the side.

The Anchorage Bucs coughed up four runs in the sixth inning Monday, and the Athletes in Action Fire held on to win at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks.
Bucs starter Paul Gerrish (3-3) pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up five earned runs.
