The A's of Clarinda, Iowa, had just taken a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning, but the Oilers responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Oilers held off Clarinda in the ninth for an 11-7 victory to advance to a Friday contest against the winner of a late Tuesday game between the San Diego Stars and the Crestwood (Ill.) Panthers.

Both teams erupted offensively Tuesday, combining for 18 runs and 21 hits. Oiler Brian McConkey went 2 for 2, scoring twice and driving in two runs.

That leaves both Alaska Baseball League teams undefeated in Wichita.

The ABL-champion Pilots won their opener 10-0 on Monday, and meet the Colorado Sox on Thursday.
