Chugiak scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to beat Kenai 4-3 in the championship game of the American Legion state baseball tournament Thursday afternoon at Mulcahy Stadium. Casey Spink (3-0) relieved starter Tim McCollum in the sixth inning and picked up the victory on his way to becoming the tournament's most valuable player.
Matt Sullivan and Jesse Oakes had two hits each for Chugiak, while first baseman Tyler Belk drove in two runs as the Mustangs ran the table (4-0) at the tournament.
Kenai advanced to the championship game by beating South 5-4 and Wasilla 6-3 on Wednesday.
Chugiak's Ty Griffith won the tournament's Big Stick award, and teammate Sullivan picked up the Golden Glove honor. Kenai pitcher Josh Gilber was named top pitcher.
