The Take No Prisoners team from Anchorage's Skinny Raven Sports dominated the 26th edition of the Klondike Trail of '98 International Road Relay, capturing the title in the 110-mile race by nearly two hours.
The title in the race from Skagway to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, was the ninth consecutive by Take No Prisoners, or a team comprised primarily of Anchorage-area runners. Take No Prisoners members clocked the fastest individual splits on each of the relay's 10 legs for the second straight year Saturday.
"It's a testament to our team,'' team captain Jerry Ross said by cell phone. "I don't like to say it, but it's lack of competition too, so if I could throw out a gauntlet there in black and white, I'd say (to other potentially fast teams), 'Come on down.' "
Take No Prisoners clocked 10 hours, 44 minutes, 1 second.
Ross ran for the winning team for the seventh straight year, and teammate Eric Strabel contributed to the win for the fifth consecutive year. Other team members were Brent Knight, Sam Hill, Vernon Campbell, Todd List, Jeff Heuseveldt, Tom Ritchie, Mark Iverson and Adam Verrier.
Verrier contributed to four team victories from 2000-2003 and Campbell contributed to three straight from 2003-2005.
Second overall, and winner of the mixed division, was the Pabst Blue Runners from Anchorage, which clocked 12:43:07.
