The UAA volleyball team clinched its first winning season since 2003 and put itself in position to finish the conference season with a .500 record by claiming a five-set win over Central Washington in a Thursday night match in Ellensburg, Wash.
The win moves the Seawolves to 7-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and 15-13 overall. UAA finishes the season Saturday against 18th-ranked Western Washington.
The chance to finish .500 in conference play is huge for the Seawolves, who won only one GNAC match last season.
Rhea Cardwell unleashed a school record-tying 32 kills and libero Stacie Meisner notched 29 digs and three aces for UAA.
Rachel Kidwell and Cortney Lundberg combined for 20 kills, and Kidwell, Cardwell and Calli Scott all reached double figures in digs as the Seawolves outdug Central Washington 70-55.
Fittingly, the match ended with a kill by Cardwell.
