UAA killed 12 of 13 Colorado College power plays Friday night and added its first short-handed goal of the season to beat the nation's No. 3-ranked college hockey team 4-2 at Sullivan Arena.
The victory leapfrogged UAA into a three-way tie for third place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Seawolves killed nine penalties, including a pair of extended two-man disadvantages, before they even received their second power play.
But they nonetheless led 2-1 courtesy of Craig Parkinson's rebound goal three minutes into the third period. And they earned a two-goal lead when Paul Crowder, 99 seconds later, scored his second goal of the game, and UAA's first shortie this season. That gives Crowder a team-leading eight goals.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead on sniper Chad Rau's first-period goal from the slot, which came off a feed from winger Eric Walsky of Anchorage, who began his career at UAA.
Walsky's power-play goal midway through the third period cut UAA's lead to 3-2. It was his team-leading ninth goal.
Tommy Grant added an empty-net goal with 24.9 seconds left to give the Seawolves breathing room.
UAA improved to 7-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the WCHA. The Tigers slipped to 7-2-3 overall and 5-3-1 in league.
The teams meet again tonight at 7:07.
