The Barrow Whalers' long flight to Anchorage paid off when Lexy Seifert's free throw secured Thursday's 44-43 win over the Service girls at the Grace Christian Classic.
Seifert was fouled with 4.3 seconds left. She missed the first three throw, but sank the second as the Class 3A Whalers upset the 4A Cougars.
Ganinna Pili scored a game-high 12 points for the Whalers and teammate Linda Simmonds chipped in 10.
Jordyan Ramirez led Service with 17 points, and Annie Zager added 14.
The Barrow boys provided another Grace Classic nail-biter.
The Whalers defeated Homer 56-53 thanks to Justin Sanders' team-high 16 points. Teammate Albert Gerke scored all seven of his points in the second half.
In other girls action, Venessa Grace collected a game-high 14 points and Alexa Mestas scored all 13 of her points in the second half to lead Grace Christian over Eagle River 47-41.
The Grace Christian and Eagle River boys faced off in the late game.
