WASILLA - Five seasons ago, Hutchison was the newcomer in high school hockey.

Today it's the contender.

The Hawks, a Fairbanks team making its first appearance in the Greatland state hockey tournament, beat Tri-Valley 8-2 Friday to advance to today's championship game at Menard Memorial Arena.

Hutchison will face Glennallen, a 7-3 winner over Tok.

Dorran Masters and Drew Baggen eached notched hat tricks and combined for three assists for Hutchison (16-3-0), which broke away from Tri-Valley with four third-period goals.

Evan Venechuk carried the offense for Tri-Valley (13-9-0). The junior forward scored two unassisted goals in the second period.

Like Hutchison, Glennallen will also try to bring home the school's first state title in hockey today. The Panthers reached the championship game by scoring six goals in the final two periods Friday.

Glennallen (18-3-0) used a hat trick from Ryan Crow and 18 saves from Gereald Mills to get another shot at the state trophy. The Panthers have played in the past two Greatland title games but lost both.

"Hopefully the third time's a charm," said Glennallen coach Mike Sondergaard.

Tok grabbed a 1-0 lead when Jesse Coulman scored just 2:29 into the game. But Glennallen rallied with unanswered goals by Scott Yahr, Crow and Will Becker.

Tok (12-8-0), making its state tournament debut, received a playoff-best 39 saves from Wade Johnson.
