Bucs split doubleheader with Miners

The Anchorage Bucs scored three runs in the eighth inning to put some distance between them and the Mat-Su Miners, eventually earning a 5-2 win Friday at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer and splitting a doubleheader.

Story tools

In the first game, a seven-inning affair, Michael Ewing blasted a three-run home run -- his second of the game -- with one out in the bottom of the last to give the Miners a 6-5 win.

Carl Uhl and August singled off Mitch Bialosky ahead of Ewing, who finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs.

Logan Schafer led the Bucs with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBIs.

Oilers 12, Pilots 3

The Peninsula Oilers snapped a 10-game losing streak with an offensive explosion in Kenai.

After the Pilots went ahead 1-0 in the first inning, the Oilers put the wood to Anchorage.

A three-run third and fourth, plus a four-run sixth was more than enough for the slumping Oilers.

Fire 10, Panners 8

Paul Keller, Joseph Lake and Jamie McGraw each pounded out three hits as the AIA Fire built a big lead before having to hold on at the end to beat Fairbanks.
