Service's Adams family had a happy Halloween on Saturday, as senior Wyatt and junior Margot each claimed two individual titles at the Cook Inlet swimming and diving championships at Bartlett High.

And to celebrate?

"I know she's going trick-or-treating," said Wyatt. "I'll probably just hand out candy. And maybe take some for myself."

Margot's wins in both the 100 yard butterfly and 100 freestyle helped the Service girls take home the team title, while Dimond's boys dominated the distance events to claim the boys championship. The Dimond girls and Service boys finished second.

For a while Saturday, it was all Adams, all the time. First, Wyatt claimed victory in the 50 freestyle. After a break for the diving competition, Margot claimed gold in the 100 butterfly. Next, Wyatt swam away from the competition by winning the 100 butterfly by nearly four seconds. Finally, Margot took her turn again, keeping West's Katie Dalton from two individual wins by edging the Eagles' sophomore by less than half a second in the 100 free.

The final tally: Four consecutive swimming events, four straight Adams wins.

"I just hope we can do the same thing we did here next week," said Wyatt, referring to the state meet.

Margot's win in the 100 freestyle was one of the more impressive wins of the meet. She'd only rested about five minutes after her butterfly triumph before hitting the water again.

"It was tiring," she said. "I've never done back-to-back like that before."

Adams wasn't the only swimmer putting on an impressive endurance display Saturday. Dimond senior Matt Summers picked up his fourth and fifth career individual CIC wins, cruising to victory in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. He also won the 500 in his sophomore and junior seasons, and was the 200 individual medley champ last season.

Summers' main competition in both events came from his Dimond teammates. In the 200, the Lynx claimed the top four spots, with David Wilcox placing second, Simon Ross taking third and Jackson Ursin finishing fourth. In the 500, the Lynx went 1-2-3, with Summers beating Ursin and Ross to the wall.

Having such a talented group of swimmers in the distance events makes training easier, Summers said, because he's always got people to push him in practice.

"Especially for the distance events, it really gets hard when you have to swim alone," he said. "It's really nice to have guys there."

Other double winners Saturday included East's Sam Wicks (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and South's Jay Schulte (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke).

Katy Dalton was one of six swimmers with one win each, as she pulled off an upset in the first individual race of the day, the 200 freestyle. Entering the meet, Dalton was seeded behind both South's Chelsea Knight and Service's Jordan Iverson. But seeds don't always guarantee finishes, and Dalton claimed first over Hannah Iverson, who placed second despite having the fourth-fastest time entering the race.

Other individual swimming winners included Dimond's Adam Kowalewski in the 100 freestyle, South's Zach Rockwell in the 100 backstroke, Dimond's Nikki Wray in the 200 individual medley, Service's Jordan Iverson in the 500 freestyle and Service's Christine Kirk in the 100 breaststroke.

The Service girls swept all three relay events, while the Cougars' boys prevented Dimond's boys from doing the same with a dramatic half-second victory over the Lynx in the day's final event, the 400 freestyle relay.

In diving, the meet's top seeds showed why they were No. 1, as East's Renee Jordan and Service's Dalton Haas took home the top spots. Bartlett's Bryan Haley and Chugiak's Kaitlin Friedli finished second.

Each individual swimming event winner automatically advances to state, as do the swimmers with the next 12 best times statewide. The top two divers each advance to the state meet, along with the top eight divers from across Alaska. The state meet is set to get underway Friday at 1 p.m. at Bartlett with preliminary round swimming, followed by preliminary diving at 3:30. Finals Saturday begin at 1 p.m.
